Our Story
From ancient traditions to modern passion!
Orginally founded in 2013 in Beach City, OH by the Geisinger family, McAlpine Meadery was the 35th Meadery registered in the US at that time.
Our mission started with a dream to craft authentic, artisan style and health-conscientious Mead, but over time, our small business blossomed into a huge network of support and friendship.
The Geisinger family was known for their love and history of winemaking.
Jeremiah, our Mead Master, wanted to continue family tradition… but in a slightly different way. He began fermenting Mead early on as a hobby, even seeking further education on the topic at UC Davis in California.
He’s crafted over 30 different flavors and has been deemed McAlpine’s Mead Wizard.
Jess, the new owner, has been a long-time fan of McAlpine Meadery and a friend of Jeremiah’s for many years. She began drinking his Mead when they first opened.
Struggling with numerous intolerances and sensitivity to most alcohol and wine, she found she could tolerate Jeremiah’s Mead really well because of his specialized techniques and recipes, falling in love with it’s intricacies and many flavors.
Since ownership changed hands in 2025, McAlpine Meadery is now twice Scottish owned.
The Geisinger family hails from the first King of Scotland, Kenneth MacAlpin.
MacAlpin is credited with the unification of the Pictish and Gaelic kingdoms evolving into a new entity – the Kingdom of Alba, later known as Scotland.
The Kidd family hails from a notorious Privateer turned Pirate, by the name of Captain William Kidd.
Captain Kidd is widely considered one of the most colorful and infamous figures in pirate history.
His adventures and wild treasure hunts were the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s
«Treasure Island.»
